Intense month ahead as Rangers look to seal Steven Alzate transfer in January

Rangers want to secure a January transfer deal for Brighton midfielder Steven Alzate in January who is set for an intense month ahead of recovering from his injury, according to Diario AS.

On January 9, a Colombian news source revealed that Brighton might decide to let Alzate go on a free transfer at the end of the season instead of letting his contract expire.

Alzate acknowledges that his prolonged travels to and from Brighton, where he is recuperating from his injury, have worn him out. He is presently on loan at Standard Liege in Belgium.

Rangers should make the most of the chance

While recovering from an anterior talofibular ligament rupture over the past six weeks, Alzate has been away from his loan club after opting to use Brighton’s facilities, leading to speculation that he may not return to Belgium.

Brighton have shown already in this transfer window that they will not hesitate to recall players from loan moves if better options present themselves after Jeremy Sarmiento was recalled from his loan spell with West Brom and sent to high-flying Ipswich.

Rather than letting him finish the season on loan at Standard Liege and then walk away for free, Brighton could be better off moving him to Rangers in order to capitalize on their asset in January. If Alzate decides to join Rangers, Glasgow may be his last stop due to the distance between England and Belgium; Philippe Clement’s team is eager to add him as their second signing of the window following Fabio Silva.

In other Rangers news, the club will consider a defender loan exit in January.
