Michael Carrick and Scott Parker aim to guide Boro and Burnley to promotion.
Michael Carrick maintained his customary, calm one-game-at-a-time stance as he and Scott Parker discussed the Championship promotion chase.
Former England teammates faced up against each other in a stalemate between Burnley and Boro. Parker’s Clarets were six points ahead of Carrick’s Boro, but the visitors earned a valuable point due to the harsh weather conditions.
With both sides expected to be top-six contenders this season, both managers discussed the Championship promotion chase following the game. The Premier League competition remains close, with only 12 points separating top and ninth teams halfway through the season.
When asked about the promotion race, Boro manager Carrick replied, “It’s hard to say. There are a handful of good teams on a comparable level; it’s all about who can put together results across a series of games. There are many of teams capable of doing so. It’s fairly tight right now because it’s still so early. There’s still a lot to go through. We just take one step at a time. We’re doing well at the moment. “It’s pretty close.”
Vincent Kompany’s Burnley and Leicester City were the standout victors of the last two Championship seasons. Parker, who had previously earned promotion from the division, concurred with Carrick, claiming that tight races to the final hurdle are increasingly prevalent.
“I see it as nip and tuck for the rest of the way,” Parker told me. “I’ve been in this division twice before, and it was the same each time. It’s a competitive and rigorous league. The most consistent squad will win in the end.
“It’s usually nip-and-tuck throughout a championship. There may be certain seasons where one team pulls away, but it’s usually a close race. The season will not be determined tonight, in three or four weeks. It will be the end, and who will last the longest? “We’re in a good position right now.”
