“A mess” – Newcastle star pulls no punches as he slates teammates following Brentford loss
Newcastle’s performance against Brentford on Saturday was described as a “mess” by Bruno Guimaraes, who also urged his colleagues to improve their “disappointing” season.
The Magpies lost 4-2 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday after putting up a defensive shambles.
The Magpies are presently mired in 12th position, one spot ahead of Manchester United and seven behind Manchester City in the race for the final Champions League berth.
Newcastle has only managed two points in their last four games, and they have given up 11 goals in their last five games without keeping a clean sheet.
Guimaraes has not held back in his evaluation of the loss on Saturday.
The Brazilian midfielder stated (via talkSPORT): “We had some good moments in the first half, but we turned into a mess in the second half.” We lost direction and control after the third goal. On the pitch, we were a complete disaster. Very dissatisfied.

Guimaraes wasn’t done there, however.
This season, Newcastle is predicted to contend for European football, although given their current defensive problems, it appears unlikely at best.
The 27-year-old urges Newcastle’s attackers and his fellow midfielders to improve because he feels that not only the team’s defenders need to accept responsibility.
Guimaraes remarked, “We have been giving up a lot this season.”
“We didn’t give up as much as we have, and we have the Champions League.”
“The defence alone is not the issue here. It is an issue for both the attack and the midfield. The issue is with the team.
“We have to stop this. But our season, being honest, has been very, very disappointing.”
