Poku in, Hills out: Norwich City transfers we urge the club to make before February 3rd.
With Norwich City’s current league position, a successful January transfer window might propel them into the play-offs for the second consecutive season.
Johannes Hoff Thorup has faced numerous challenges since joining City. He lost two of his top players in the summer – Gabriel Sara and Jonathan Rowe – and has had to deal with a frustrating number of crucial player injuries. Despite these challenges, he has assembled a somewhat impressive Canaries squad that appears capable of competing for a play-off spot. With Bojra Sainz at the helm, they are now one of the most potent attacking sides in the Championship.
That doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Norwich’s squad isn’t significantly superior to any of the clubs around them, at least in its current shape. In January, they will be able to address this, plug any gaps that have yet to be filled, improve areas of the team, or shift some deadwood elsewhere. These are the two moves that Football League World would like to see the Canaries make before the winter window closes.
In: Kwame Poku
Norwich faces a clear threat on the left flank. Sainz has been unplayable for much of the season and has handled the situation admirably since Josh Sargent’s groin injury. On the other side of the offensive line, however, the situation is rather different. Nobody has nailed down the right-wing berth in the Danish manager’s lineup, leaving an opening for a January signing like Kwame Poku to occupy.
So far this season, he has been League One’s equivalent of Norwich City’s Spanish talisman, scoring from all angles. With his contract expiring in the summer, Peterborough United are more than likely to sell him at the start of the new year in order to cash in on the 23-year-old while he is still available. If Norwich decides to pursue the right-winger, they will not be alone in the battle. According to TBR Football, Burnley, Ipswich Town, Rangers, and Southampton are all interested in signing the Ghanaian before 2025. City should, however, continue to compete in the Poku ring.
