The transfer window opens on January 1 and American group COH Sports have made this promise to Chris Wilder to boost their promotion push
Sheffield United’s probable new owners have approved the club’s plans to sign two loan players next month.
In addition, once their £100 million buyout is completed, American business COH Sports will release millions to pay any permanent deals. COH Sports’ Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy met Chris Wilder after last month’s derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday and are eager to assist him in getting the Blades promoted.
They believe Wilder has done an excellent job of turning United around after a disastrous Premier League season and are eager to support him. The EFL has authorized the agreement, and the final step is for existing owner Prince Muhammad to sign off on the takeover.
The club has identified two loan acquisitions for the summer window, and Rosen and Eltoukhy will also offer cash to close permanent moves. Wilder refused to comment on the impending takeover when he spoke on Friday to preview Sunday’s trip to West Brom, but every Blades fan knows the clock is ticking down to the transfer window opening on January 1.
Instead, Wilder concentrated on the return from injury of forwards Rhian Brewster and Kieffer Moore to help the Blades’ promotion push. Brewster has been out for just over a month due to a thigh issue, but Wilder claims the former Liverpool youngster will return at The Hawthorns.
Moore has been out for four weeks with calf issues, and Wilder reckons the Wales international could play on Sunday, though Wednesday’s trip to Millwall seems more likely. “Rhian will be involved on Sunday, which I’m delighted about,” Wilder added.
“We’re waiting for Kieffer, but he’ll surely be involved on Wednesday night. So the decision has still to be made. But, as I mentioned, Kieffer was obviously active on Wednesday night, so he has a potential of being involved on Sunday.
United are the form club in the Championship, having won six and drawn one of their past seven games, and Wilder is pleased with their mentality given that they played with ten men in two of those three meetings. “The attitude of the team, especially in the last 20, 25 minutes, and the physical output were amazing,” he told me.
“We were down to ten guys the previous Saturday for more than an hour, and we had the game on Tuesday night. Yeah, Sunderland was also down a man, I understand that, but I thought we looked incredibly strong, and the team’s mentality was to push for the win.”
