Wolves already held talks with “outstanding” manager; O’Neil on the verge

Following their impressive victories against Fulham and Southampton, it appeared that O’Neil and Wolves had finally turned the corner and were headed for Premier League safety. But since then, they’ve had to start over after losing to relegation rivals Everton 4-0 at Bournemouth, where they gave up three penalties. O’Neil’s position appears to be more precarious than before.

John Percy of The Telegraph claims that the manager’s job is in shambles and that Wolves is actively looking for a replacement even though he will be coaching West Ham against fellow failing manager Julen Lopetegui this weekend. A loss against the Hammers might be the last straw that ends O’Neil’s tenure.

.Although the exact successor of the former Bournemouth manager is yet unknown, recent reports have undoubtedly given some clues. The Daily Mail claims that Wolves had already discussed O’Neil’s replacement with Graham Potter last month but were unable to persuade the former Chelsea manager to accept the position at that time.

It would be fascinating to watch if Potter’s position changes or if Wolves are obliged to look at other choices in the upcoming weeks, given that O’Neil is now in danger of losing his job and Wolves is actively looking for successors.

“Outstanding” Potter could be an instant upgrade

Potter, who has kept Brighton & Hove Albion afloat, is the perfect choice if Wolves’ first priority is to remain in the Premier League. In the meantime, the former Seagulls manager is more than capable of bringing them back to the heyday of European football under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Potter turned Brighton around to land what turned out to be a challenging Chelsea position, but returning to management by turning Wolves around might boost his reputation once more.

Graham-Potter

Brighton’s CEO Paul Barber recently predicted Potter for the England position before the FA picked Thomas Tuchel, demonstrating that the 4-2-3-1 manager still has a lot of supporters at The Amex. “Graham is an excellent coach, and I am sure the FA will take him into consideration,” Barber told reporters, as reported by Tribal Football. He performed a fantastic job with us.

“The games he was in charge of included some excellent performances, but it didn’t quite work out at Chelsea. He behaves himself in an excellent manner. English is his first language.

“The national team is important to him. He was an under-21 player for the national squad. Graham would be a fantastic option, and I would be shocked if he wasn’t taken into consideration for the England position. I haven’t discussed this with him yet.
