Where next for Liam Delap? Chelsea, Man City return and potential destinations for in-demand Ipswich Town hitman – ranked

Following two strong, if unimpressive, seasons as a first-team player on loan from Manchester City in the Championship, Liam Delap has adapted to the Premier League like a duck to water. Since joining Ipswich Town permanently upon their return to the top flight, the 21-year-old has made everyone take notice.

Despite this being his first season as a regular starter in the Premier League, Delap is on track to have his best-ever goal-scoring season as a senior player. He is a dynamic striker who combines finishing ability with dominant hold-up play, pace, and technique in and around the box.

Scouts from the so-called “Big Six” have been observing him in action lately in hopes of a possible move, as his six goals, one assist, and all-around play in a struggling Ipswich team have unavoidably drawn the notice of some of the division’s best players. He is thought to be worth approximately £45 million ($54 million), and he might be a very wise addition to any team.

He will have the pick of the bunch if he keeps acting in this manner, but what is the rationale?

Delap would have to be realistic about his chances of making the first team if he chose to re-sign with the team he only formally left in the summer, even though there would be a certain romance to going back to the place where it all started. Playing second fiddle to Erling Haaland, the world’s most prolific scorer, at this pivotal point in his career would be a step backward, but perhaps a City comeback is in his future.

City may still be able to influence Delap’s next move, though, since they reportedly inserted a buy-back option and a 20% sell-on clause in his £20 million ($25 million) July deal to Ipswich.
