Leicester didn’t hire Carlos Corberan because of what he’s doing at West Brom
According to Don Goodman, Carlos Corberan, the manager of West Brom, would have been as much of a “gamble” at Leicester City as Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
Corberan was linked to the management position after Steve Cooper was fired at Leicester, and it was said that he was amenable to leave The Hawthorns (Give Me Sport).
But it looks like the Foxes have chosen Van Nistelrooy (Fabrizio Romano), and Goodman explained to West Brom News why he believes they chose not to hire Corberan.
“So, Carlos, he’s done very well with very limited resources,” Goodman stated. Nevertheless, Carlos Corberan would be as big of a gamble as Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Any new boss they hire is going to be a risk, you know.
How tactically different is Carlos from Steve Cooper, I wonder? Steve wanted his sides to be well-organised, difficult to score against, difficult to defeat, and difficult to compete.
“Well, isn’t that Carlos Corberan’s DNA? Are you really willing to take a chance on a Championship manager with that DNA if you’re Leicester? I’m not entirely certain.
Carlos Corberan key for West Brom
The fact that the Baggies are still in the running for promotion despite their current poor play speaks much about the Spaniard’s coaching skills.
Although he has had to deal with the injuries of a number of important players, Corberan has managed to keep them in a postseason position.
Although the Baggies’ winless streak stopped them from making any progress, their ability to go essentially undefeated had its own benefits.
Without him, West Brom’s chances of being promoted are slim because very few teams in the Championship are as well-prepared as a Corberan squad.
The club’s chances of returning to the Premier League are greatly improved by the fact that he will stay, and January might be a key month in that regard.
Josh Maja has drawn interest from Celta Vigo, but the Baggies’ ability to stay in the top six of the Championship will be primarily determined by the incoming team.
