Celtic’s win over Aberdeen sets up a commanding lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Bredan Rodgers knew Celtic would have a tough challenge at Pittodrie, with Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin’s side unbeaten in 17 games in the Granite City.
Reo Hatate’s goal sealed Celtic’s Pittodrie victory, as Rodgers made four changes from the lineup that defeated Ross County at Celtic Park.
Celtic fans were disappointed to see Luke McCowan demoted, while others were relieved to see Paulo Bernardo keep his spot.
However, Arne Engels had to settle for a spot on the Celtic bench, and before kick-off, Brendan Rodgers explained his Celtic starting lineup against Aberdeen.
Brendan Rodgers explains Celtic team changes vs Aberdeen
Rodgers told Sky Sports, “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the goal is to keep the team’s enthusiasm and intensity up.
“I believe that’s how we play and work, and you can only do it with freshness, particularly in those offensive areas.
“So having the stamina to press the game the way we want is quite essential. And obviously, that stimulated your work with the ball. So the wingers and attackers are really crucial to us.”

Alex Valle was another player who retained his starting spot after shining in Celtic’s victory over Ross County.
When asked if Bernardo and Valle deserved to keep their Celtic places, Rodgers responded, “Yes, but they’re all very talented players.
“It’s just that you look at each game and see where you might need a specific type of player.
“So, but like I said, the players on the side, they know that they’re ready to come into the game if we need them.”
Last night’s triumph over Aberdeen demonstrated Celtic’s squad strength. It wasn’t until the changes in the second half that the Bhoys broke through, with Greg Taylor setting up Hatate’s winner.
The cynics would argue that selecting the team to face Aberdeen was the wrong decision, given it took until the 78th minute to get the breakthrough.
However, 67 Hail Hail would suggest that Rodgers’ depth has paid off as he hauled on fresh legs to break down a tenacious, but tired, Aberdeen team, whose title challenge is now fading following a four-game winless streak.
