Key quotes from Danny Rohl’s Sheffield United vs Sheffield Wednesday presser including drink with Chris Wilder

On Sunday, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday square off at Bramall Lane in the first Steel City rivalry since 2019.

Sheffield Wednesday team news vs Sheffield United

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Akin Famewo, Nathaniel Chalobah, Michael Ihiekwe, and Olaf Kobacki for the game against United.

Speaking about the latest on team news, Rohl said on Friday: “Everybody looks well… Nath [Chalobah] is back on the grass. He trained the last two days with the team.

“Of course, he needs a little bit more minutes, more practices. But it’s a huge step forward.

Danny Rohl’s chat with Akin Famewo

Famewo has picked up a muscle injury at Sheffield Wednesday, following what had been an impressive season so far for the defender.

Speaking on Famewo, Rohl said: “I met him two days ago in my office. We spoke about his feelings. I give him hope.

“I feel for him; even though I didn’t play so high, I had a lot of injuries and I know what it means, and especially he was really in a good shape. He performed well.

“He was very positive. He said ‘I will come stronger back’. He will fight. He will do everything. We know this injury takes time and you can never say how quick it goes.”

On Sheffield Wednesday being the underdogs in the Steel City derby

Given the Championship table, many are backing Sheffield United to be the favourites on Sunday.

Asked whether he likes the underdog status, Rohl said: “We have also our goals this season. We showed that we can beat big teams in this league. We showed also that we can lose some teams. Both is possible.

“But we are ready for such a game. I think they [Sheffield United] will also take us very serious because they know as well, that we have weapons, that we are good organised, and it could be very difficult for them as well.

“When you look back to Tuesday, maybe against Norwich, we are also little bit underdog. It’s not always a bad thing.”

Danny Rohl on possible Kieffer Moore injury

Due to what appears to be a late fitness check, Sheffield United may be without Kieffer Moore this weekend.

Rohl responded, “You never know what happens,” when asked how he is getting ready to play a United team with or without Moore. I believe we need to get both ready. He is a ball-player in front, in my opinion. Although I believe the backup is not too bad, he can keep the ball nicely.

“I believe you need to prepare both in this situation. You see what that means, but from what I’ve observed thus far, they have a structure for how they play both with and without the ball.

“I’m not sure if he will really change so much.”

Danny Rohl drops Sheffield Wednesday team selection hint

The Owls manager is trying to find a mix between experience and quality, therefore two or three starting slots are still up for grabs, Rohl added.

“There are currently two or three open positions,” he stated. In addition to the balance you require on the pitch, you also need the balance that the more seasoned players provide.

“I am certain that the players who will be on the pitch will be on fire, regardless of who they are.”

Danny Rohl on his drink with Chris Wilder

Additionally, Rohl disclosed that he had previously run with Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder in a Sheffield restaurant.

“I meet him one or two times in my [local] restaurant, Nonna’s, and sometimes he’s also there,” the Owls manager stated.

“I believe he invited me for a drink after the game. It was pleasant.
