Update On The Future Of This Aston Villa Defender: Should Emery Cash In On Him?

The Athletic (subscription required) has released an update regarding Calum Chambers, the defender for Aston Villa. The English full-back is reportedly on the Villans’ radar for sale during this winter transfer season.

Chambers’ Lack Of Game Time At Villa Park This Season

Chambers has found game time hard to come by at the West Midlands club during this campaign. The 28-year-old has only made three appearances for Aston Villa this season across all fronts. Chambers has often himself behind Matty Cash in Unai Emery’s pecking order.

The English sensation has served as a useful presence in Aston Villa’s match-day squad over the past couple of years. However, he needs a change of scenery this winter in search of more first-team chances.

Chambers is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2025. Therefore, Unai Emery has no immediate need to cash in on him in this ongoing transfer window.

Should Aston Villa Head Coach Unai Emery Cash In On Chambers?

Chambers may recover possession for his team inside his half by scanning the threat and making good tackles with the ball. When he thinks he might be caught out at the back, he typically puts his foot through the ball. The gifted Englishman can play his way out of the back and is a respectable ball handler. He has, however, occasionally lacked consistency in his right flank performances.

Although Chambers’ primary position is right back, his manager may ask him to step in as a central defender or defensive midfielder. Because of his versatility and experience, he can play a supporting role in the majority of elite clubs in England.

But Chambers’ lack of first-team opportunities at Aston Villa this season has left him disappointed. So, it would only be just if Unai Emery made a move for the player in January and used the proceeds from his possible sale to sign a worthy successor before the end of the current transfer window.
