Portsmouth FC will be looking on at Swansea City with envy after Watford win

Even at this early juncture in the season, Pompey is six points behind safety at the bottom of the league standings

after winning just one of their first 14 games.

John Mousinho’s team has had a difficult start, and it’s obvious that they lack the kind of seasoned Championship

talent that could propel them up the standings.

The early months of the season have brought Pompey back to earth after winning the League One title the previous

season, and they might be annoyed to see a member of their championship-winning team succeeding in another

league.

Myles Peart-Harris joined Portsmouth on loan in January, helping the club get over the line in their bid for

promotion, and he’s had his first taste of Championship football on loan at Swansea City this season, where he’s

beginning to develop into a really important player for Luke Wiliams’ side.

After going on loan to Pompey in January of this year, Peart-Harris played 12 games for the team, starting 10 of

them and scored two goals.

Solid without being remarkable would be the best way to characterise his loan stint at Fratton Park. Although it

was evident that he was a gifted player, Pompey’s outstanding form and the fact that he had joined midway

through the season made it impossible for him to have a significant impression.

After a somewhat sluggish start, Peart-Harris is finally settling into the Championship after Brentford sent him on

loan once more in the summer, this time to Swansea.

The 22-year-old has started the last four games for Swansea, and he scored their only goal of the game in a 1-0 win

against Watford in midweek, capping a fantastic individual performance.

Club Season P G A
Brentford 2021- 8 0 0
Forest Green Rovers (Loan) 2022-23 47 6 4
Portsmouth (Loan) 2024 12 2 0
Swansea City (Loan) 2024- 11 1 0

That result took Swansea to ninth in the Championship table, ten points and 15 places above Pompey, and given

their struggles this season, it’ll be easy to look on with envy after seeing Peart-Harris become a key player for one

of their divisional rivals.

While he may not have set the world alight at Fratton Park last season, Mousinho could certainly do with someone

of his quality at the club given their current struggles, and there could potentially be some regret that they didn’t

make more of an effort to bring him back to the club over the summer.

Myles Peart-Harris is becoming an important player for Swansea City

Peart-Harris was the greatest player on the pitch, especially in the first half, and put on the performance he had

been threatening to put on all season against Watford on Tuesday night.

After a fantastic run in which he beat two defenders before crossing the ball in, Zan Vipotnik could have recorded

an assist worthy of the highlight reel. He scored one goal but was unfortunate not to get another as he struck the

post in the first half of the game.

In an interview with the media following the game, Swansea manager Williams, who is obviously fond of Peart-

Harris, was gushing about the 22-year-old.

“I loved the goal because he had a couple of chances in previous games where he didn’t assert himself, and I didn’t

really believe at that moment that he was going to score,” he said at his news conference.

“He’s a young player who didn’t play at this level before and is very quickly adapting and then doing a bit more

than adapting. He is looking like he’s feeling more and more comfortable.” Pompey was losing to relegation rivals

Plymouth, which put them in serious trouble, while Peart-Harris was scoring in a victory that moved Swansea into

the top 10 of the Championship table. Pompey will be envious of the Brentford loanee’s performance at Swansea,

and he’ll be looking to inflict more suffering on his former team when they play at the Swansea.com Stadium at the

end of November.
