John Lundstram, a former Rangers star, has come under fire for his performances in Turkey, and it appears that leaving Ibrox was the right move.
Before leaving the Gers in the summer of 2024, Lundstram made more than 150 appearances; at the time, many people had doubts about this choice.
But now that former Turkish international Sergen Yalcin has accused the former midfielder of providing “absolutely nothing,” it seems like that choice was the right one (Daily Record, 7 November).
Since leaving Ibrox, Lundstram has made 16 appearances for Turkish team Trabzonspor, although he hasn’t made an impression.
Have Rangers missed John Lundstram?
Although Rangers have missed a lot of things this season, Lundstram is not one of them. It’s hard to imagine a situation where he could have had a good impact for Rangers this season, even if he was a mainstay in the Gers squad the previous campaign.
The majority of Rangers’ problems have been offensive in nature, with a number of attacking players performing poorly, leaving Philippe Clement’s team nine points behind the leaders after just ten games.
The top two teams, Celtic and Aberdeen, have scored 28 goals in those games, while the Gers have only managed 19 goals under the Belgian’s leadership.
To claim that Lundstram could have had any impact on the team this season would be a bit absurd considering that he only scored ten goals in all competitions.
Rangers’ decision to cut ties with the midfield player was one of the few wise moves the team has made in the last 12 months, as Gary Keown has called them a “basketcase.”
In other Rangers news, Scottish football has “launched up the coefficient table,” which is fantastic news for the Gers given Celtic’s most recent Champions League success.
