Blackburn won 1-0 against Leeds United in the Championship on Tuesday night.
Todd Cantwell, a former Rangers midfielder, scored the winner in Blackburn Rovers’ 1-0 win over Leeds United on Tuesday night, and manager John Eustace feels he is helping the team take their game to the next level.
Cantwell divided opinion during his 18-month tenure at Ibrox, and he was dropped by Philippe Clement during last summer’s pre-season preparations as all parties attempted to find another club for the player. The offensive midfielder has taken some time to get going at Ewood Park, but he scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot in Tuesday’s home win, bringing his total to one goal and three assists in 14 games.
Rovers manager Eustace believes the 26-year-old maverick is helping the entire club ‘grow’ as they pull within two points of the Championship play-offs. He told the Lancashire Telegraph, “I don’t mind who takes the penalties as long as they put them away. It is critical that Toddy is off the mark now.
“It is his first goal for the club, which is a huge deal; I believe it had been on his mind a little bit. He could have scored a few more, but he’s getting into the right spots. He’s playing some amazing football.
“He is currently a focal focus for us. He is helping us improve as a football squad, and we are happy to have him here.”
