Anthony Elanga of Nottingham Forest is set to be included in Sweden’s squad, which was recently announced to the country’s media.
Perhaps the 22-year-old had become complacent about his national team position, believing that if he played regularly for Nottingham Forest, he would automatically be selected for Sweden.
If that’s the case, Jon Dahl Tomasson’s most recent decision may provide him with a boost and motivation to continue pushing forward.
Elanga has been left out of Sweden’s newest roster, with 32-year-old Emil Forsberg, a New York Red Bulls player, taking his position ahead of the Nottingham Forest attacker.
It’s undoubtedly the biggest news from Sweden’s newest squad announcement, and the manager has been questioned about why Elanga isn’t included.
In response, Fotbollskanalen quotes Tomasson as saying, “Players come in, players leave the squad.” Football is harsh. There is plenty of competition. Isak is back, and Forsberg has been productive for the New York Red Bulls, scoring and assisting. It is football. “We had to make a decision.”
Elanga has made 11 appearances for Nottingham Forest this season, but is not a regular starter. He has not scored a goal and has only given one assist.
