Philippe Clement has described next month’s Premier Sports Cup Final against Celtic as ‘the biggest challenge in Scotland’. Rangers secured their place in the final with a comeback victory over Motherwell at Hampden Park yesterday, relieving some of the burden on Clement’s shoulders. Andy Halliday gave Well the lead at halftime, but Cyriel Dessers and Nedmin Bajrami scored in the second half to turn the game around.
Celts surged into the final by scoring six goals against Aberdeen, but Clement is determined to protect the championship he won last year. He stated, “It’s a significant issue, the largest in Scotland, but that’s also a wonderful thing. It’s the next step towards winning the cup again.” The Old Firm rivals will face off at the national stadium on December 15, and Clement stated, “We are now where we want to be, which is the final.” We had that incredible feeling with the supporters last season, and we can compete for it again. That was the goal of today, and it is a well-deserved triumph.
“It was certainly the worst scenario you could have. Starting the game strongly and creating chances, their goal comes on the first really dangerous ball into the box. However, this game must serve as a reference for the next squad. “To do what we did a lot last season and dig in, and in any scenario to maintain our belief, keep going, keep fighting, and smash the wall if we fall behind. This might be a huge game at the end of the season to use as a reference. I’d like to see this mentality every three days. That is what we have been discussing, but simply talking is not enough.
