Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has said it was not a ‘risk’ to play Dan James against Plymouth Argyle, despite question marks over his fitness.
Leeds United’s winger missed a training session last week due to injury but fought back to play at the weekend. He scored as the Whites beat the Pilgrims 3-0 at Elland Road, with Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson also on the scoresheet.
James, 26, has made seven appearances so far this season for the Championship promotion hopefuls and has chipped in with two goals.
Farke has said, as per a report , “It was not a risk. No bad reaction after being involved on Thursday and he looked sharp on Friday. I got the green light from our medical department. He was there with a good game at Bristol and I got the feeling he needed to be on the pitch.
“After a pretty disrupted [spell] he needs gametime. Good for his confidence that he scored a goal, involved in many good scenes. Good to have him back in a good shape. We need him back. If it would be risky I would probably have gone with a different solution. The feeling was if he doesn’t play 90 it should be possible so we gave him the nod and thank God we did.”
Leeds United winger latest
James is a very useful player for Leeds United to have available when fit as he gives them more competition and depth going forward.
He had a hamstring issue earlier this campaign but has since fought back from that.
The attacker has been with the Whites since 2021 and has made 93 appearances in all competitions, three of which have come so far this season, and he has scored 19 goals. His contract expires in the summer of June 2026.
The Wales international, who has 53 caps under his belt, causes problems to opposition defenders with his pace.
James was on the books at Hull City before Swansea City snapped him up as a youngster in 2014.
He then went on to play 39 games for the Swans as a teenager before Manchester United landed him.
The Beverley-born man scored nine goals in 74 outings for the Red Devils before leaving Old Trafford for Leeds United.
James has since proved to be a useful asset for the Whites and was loaned out to Fulham in 2022 as well.
What now?
Leeds United are back in action on Wednesday night with an away trip to The Den to face Millwall.
Farke has a decision to make as to whether to throw him back in.
