'Greed, money, power' - How Brunhilda the brown bear arrived...

An orphaned bear has arrived at a Suffolk farm after travelling across Europe, where activists have fought against

political and military turbulence.

Brunhilda arrived at Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park early this year after being found alone and orphaned in a

woodland in Belarus over three years ago.

Her rescuers mistook her for a male and named her Milan. She was transferred to Bear Again, a rehabilitation clinic

in Romania, with the goal of returning to her hometown.

The team developed attached to “an exceptionally beautiful animal” while working towards restoration.

Efforts to return Brunhilda to her motherland were hampered by ongoing political and military tensions with

Belarus, as well as the Ukraine war, resulting in a lack of transportation options.

Despite a year of efforts, the Bear Again team was unable to secure her safe return to Belarus.

Around this time, experts discovered that ‘Milan’ was actually a female, renaming her Brunhilda.

After that, she was brought to a Romanian rehabilitation facility, which at first believed she was a guy. Since their

facility isn’t set up for adult bears, Bear Again was eventually unable to maintain Brunhilda at their location. As a

result, a deal was reached to relocate her to Jimmy’s Farm in Wherstead.

She felt like family, therefore it was a really tough decision for us, but sometimes we have to make logical decisions

even when our feelings tell us otherwise, the Bear Again team stated.

The conflict in Ukraine prevented her from going back to her native country. “We will occasionally travel to see her

and will always consider her to be our child, flourishing in a foreign country.”

“Her entire wildlife was taken from her due to forces beyond her control—greed, money, power, and space,” stated

park director Stevie Sheppard.

“Many people are just not aware of this, therefore they need to hear it. We feel privileged to be a part of her story and

are eager to tell our guests about her journey. She is the epitome of what we are trying to accomplish at the park.

She finally came to Jimmy’s Farm and Wildlife Park in Wherstead earlier this year.Jimmy Doherty, the farm’s

founder and CEO, expressed excitement in welcoming Brunhilda to her ultimate home. Her path exemplifies all we

stand for: providing a safe, caring home for animals in need and giving them a second shot in life.”
