A ‘robust’ Birmingham City man is singled out by Chris Davies as assistance is imminent.
One guy has been driving Birmingham City’s success in their 18 games this season.
Unsung hero Alex Cochrane has received plaudits from Chris Davies for assuming the responsibility of being Birmingham City’s only senior left defender who is fit and acknowledged.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Blues from Hearts in the summer, has been a mainstay of the League One season and played 94 more minutes in the team’s 1-0 victory against Sutton United over the weekend.
As Blues have advanced to the Bristol Street Motors Trophy final stages and the second round of the FA Cup, the defender is one of just 20 outfield players in the entire division to play every minute. He has also added four starts in cup competitions.
Since Lee Buchanan, the Blues’ starter from the previous season, has been out since the summer, rookie Brandon Khela is the only other player to start at left back.
Furthermore, Davies is well aware of the pressures put on the former Brighton trainee. Because it’s not easy, he told Birmingham Live, “I’ve been really impressed with his robustness, his physical fitness, and his mental fitness really, to keep going and keep churning out the games.”
He was added because we needed depth at every position, and Lee Buchanan is our other left back. Sadly, Lee has been side-lined by injury for the whole season. Alex has been forced to do everything. Thus, I’ve been quite impressed.
In his position with the squad, he selects the right moments to advance into the final third. He also has a pretty beautiful left foot and is an excellent defender. He can take a set piece well and has a couple assists. He has, in my opinion, been a very wise addition to the team.
