Only two clubs with a 2–6 record have advanced to the playoffs since 1971, and both were winners of weak divisions.

However, it doesn’t seem like the Dolphins will be inclined to sell away any of its best players by Tuesday’s NFL trade

deadline at 4 p.m. after losing six of their first eight games. Manager in general Agent Drew Rosenhaus, who has a

keen sense of the league’s pulse, stated on his weekly WSVN-Fox 7 program on Sunday that “Chris Grier and the

Dolphins have been very active in making phone calls, at least over the last three weeks.”

Without going into details, I can say with certainty that the Dolphins have made a concerted effort to improve. “I

don’t expect them to trade away any of their top players, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they acquired a player or

two.” They haven’t been able to complete a move yet, but it’s not because they haven’t tried. They haven’t given up by

any means, and they are genuinely committed to doing everything in their power to turn this season around.

Grier has expressed his admiration for the Dolphins’ roster on numerous occasions. If they so choose, they could

explain the 2-6 start by pointing to injuries to Tua Tagovailoa and several important defenders (Jaelan Phillips,

Bradley Chubb, Jevon Holland, and Zach Sieler) as well as the impossibility of losing two straight games on field

goals in the closing seconds, such as Sunday’s 30-27 loss to Buffalo, which the Bills won on a 61-yard field goal from

Tyler Bass.

Grier and Mike McDaniel “share a belief in this team if you can find a way to get over the hump, which we fully

expect to,” McDaniel stated on Monday. According to McDaniel, Grier “hasn’t brought anything that is real to me.”

“We firmly believe that this team is superior to their win-loss record.”
