Steve Cooper now knows to drop one Leicester City star after he looked ‘frustrated’ vs Ipswich Town
Due to his performance against Ipswich Town, one Leicester City player may be cut from the starting lineup.
Jordan Ayew brought the game back to equal terms in a dramatic late fashion, but Leicester City left Portman Road with a late draw.
Although Leicester City was clearly the superior team in the match, the Foxes nevertheless had numerous weaknesses throughout the pitch.
Although Boubakary Soumare’s surprise cameo ended well after he assisted Ayew’s equaliser at the end, and the Foxes striker did a great job finishing with such poise, there were still some performances that fell short, and one offensive display in particular stands out as one that might result in their dismissal.
Leicester City star Stephy Mavididi could face drop after Ipswich Town performance
With the exception of the strong performances by forwards Jamie Vardy and Facundo Buonanotte, the Foxes have not been very consistent in their offensive production.
Stephy Mavididi was a prime example of a player that did not live up to expectations during the weekend, as the Leicester Mercury reported that his performance against Ipswich Town “frustrated.”
According to SofaScore, the attacker, who was used down the left-flank for Steve Cooper’s team, appeared to struggle most in front of goal as he missed a significant opportunity and failed to muster a single shot. Additionally, he was a little careless with the ball and lost it nine times, with Ben Johnson at right-back for
Lack of squad depth could save Stephy Mavididi’s place in the side
There aren’t many reasons why Cooper would want to stick with him after such a performance.
The first forward cut would surely be Mavididi, who for the second time this season was overshadowed by Vardy, Buonanotte, and Abdul Fatawu.
However, there isn’t much firepower to turn to that could provide more than Mavididi when looking towards the bench, as Cooper will be in this case.
Ayew might be brought in to start for the Foxes, although he has shown himself to be more valuable off the bench, as the wide pair Kasey McAteer and Bilal El Khannouss haven’t accomplished much in the 2024–25 Premier League season thus far.
It will only depend on the struggling options behind Mavididi if he keeps his place in the starting lineup against Man United, but Cooper will know that a performance like that against Ipswich cannot be repeated.
