Cardiff City recorded their fourth consecutive home victory on Saturday afternoon as they completed a thrilling late comeback to beat Norwich City by a scoreline of 2-1, and the fact they did so without Alex Robertson makes it all the more impressive.
Due to late goals from Callum Robinson and Callum O’Dowda, who both scored within four minutes to dramatically
inspire all three points, the Bluebirds were able to sustain their recent success at home.
Borja Sainz’s incredible long-range effort put Cardiff behind early in the second half, but they were jolted by a
positive vibe and a sense of momentum in the second half.
Cardiff enjoyed extended late pressure before making the visitors pay for their missed opportunities, and Norwich
themselves wasted more chances to seal the match as Sainz failed to capitalize one-on-one with Jak Alnwick.
The striker duly scored his fifth league goal of the season as his shot deflected off Shane Duffy and wrong-footed
Norwich goalkeeper George Long after O’Dowda broke down the left-hand side and found Robinson inside the box,
restoring parity.
Without a question, they would have been more than happy with a point, but minutes later, O’Dowda scored a
powerful goal in a packed penalty area to seal the deal and throw Cardiff City Stadium into a frenzy.
Based on the information from yesterday, Cardiff might not have many advantages over Johannes Hoff Thorup’s
team. In fact, Norwich has 23 goals this season, more than just league leaders Sunderland, and they were undefeated
going into their trip to Wales.
Without a doubt, Cardiff’s triumph was overwhelmingly spectacular. Additionally, it was their hardest battle of the
Omer Riza era.
But it’s all the better considering they didn’t have Alex Robertson, who has been a major contributor to the Cardiff
team since joining from Manchester City in the summer.
Alex Robertson, Cardiff City impact makes Norwich City feat even more impressive
There was a noticeable sense of anxiety and worry among Cardiff fans at exactly 2:00 PM on Saturday when
Robertson was completely sidelined due to a “injury” that was not yet disclosed.
Naturally, Cardiff deserves a great deal of credit for their ability to win another game and extend their winning streak
to six games without the Australian.
