Despite interest from numerous Championship clubs, Lewis O’Brien is said to have made a definite decision over his
future.
In recent months, O’Brien has been linked to moves to Leeds United, Sheffield United, Hull City, and West Brom.
The Nottingham Forest player is now on loan to Los Angeles FC, a Major League Soccer team, after joining from
Huddersfield Town in July 2022 for an estimated £8 million.
According to journalist Alan Nixon’s Patreon page, O’Brien is anticipated to remain with LAFC once his short-term
agreement expires. According to reports, the American team will exercise their option to pay almost £7 million to
acquire the 26-year-old, a move that the player is eager to make.
If that transfer goes through, West Brom, Hull and other teams interested will have to search elsewhere to reinforce
their midfield ranks. Albion boss Carlos Corberan was keen on reconciling with the player he spent two years with at
Huddersfield Town but it seems not to be.
O’Brien only made 17 appearances for Forest in his two years there, thus his move to the City Ground never quite
worked out. O’Brien played for both Middlesbrough and DC United during the 2023–2024 season, therefore one of
their campaigns was also spent on loan.
O’Brien leaves his native country with a wealth of experience, having made 199 appearances overall across the top
three English divisions in the Premier League, Championship, and League One. The playmaker, who has so far been
a consistent starter at LAFC, is about to make his second high-profile move.
