Ivan gets first NHL goal as Colorado Avalanche impress in win over Utah Hockey Club
At the Delta Centre on Thursday night, the Colorado Avalanche defeated the Utah Hockey Club 5-1 to record their fourth consecutive victory. Following three consecutive victories over inferior opponents, the Avalanche made an impression in the victory.
Utah’s high-octane offence made the Avalanche’s task against the Hockey Club considerably more difficult. Overall, the Avs played a full game, using a tough defence to stifle Utah’s strong offence.
The Avs’ potent offence, meanwhile, completed the task by scoring five goals to secure the victory. It was Justus Annnuen’s third consecutive solid start.
Here are some important takeaways from Thursday night’s Colorado Avalanche victory over the Utah Hockey Club.
Cale Makar, who appeared more like a forward than a defenseman, scored a clever goal. Makar currently leads the league with 15 points (3G, 12A) after scoring the goal. Makar has performed admirably offensively and defensively throughout the season.
Makar might surpass 100 points at this pace, putting him on an exclusive list alongside greats like Denis Potvin, Bobby Orr, Paul Coffey, Al MacInnis, and Brian Leetch.
Ivan notches first NHL goal
Thursday night’s game was a memorable one for Ivan Ivan. Ivan scored his first NHL goal, on the power play no less. Ivan’s goal was a power play marker, putting the Avs ahead 4-0 at the time late in the second period.
For Ivan, the goal marked his third point in eight games this season. He’s looked increasingly confident, suggesting he’ll be a mainstay on the Avs’ bottom six for the foreseeable future.
Annunen was sharp once again
Late in the third period, Annunen attempted a shutout, but Lawson Crouse beat him to put Utah on the score.
For Annunen, it was again another outstanding beginning. He recorded his third consecutive victory with 25 saves. There isn’t much question now that Annunen has seized the opportunity to start as goalie. The strain on the Avs to find a trustworthy goalie to shoulder the load is lessened with Annunen stepping up.
Annunen’s recent performance has given the team a sense of relaxation, even though there are still unanswered questions.
