Saints restructure CB Marshon Lattimore’s contract.

The New Orleans Saints have started their yearly cap reorganization early. Marshon Lattimore, a cornerback, was signed to a

reorganized, turning $13.79 million of his $15 million base pay in 2024 into an option bonus.

Given that the restructure was converted, there are a lot of concerns over the top cornerback’s future with the Saints.

not a signing bonus, but an option bonus. A bonus for options that functions differently in trades. Since suffering an ankle injury in week 10, Lattimore has not participated in any games for the Saints.

If New Orleans is looking to move on from their All-Pro cornerback, they would have to wait until post-June 1, 2024, to save

themselves $30.4M in dead money. Choosing to trade Lattimore after June 1st would defer some dead cap to 2025.

Cornerback Paulson Adebo has taken a big step up in his third year, becoming a viable option to be the Saints starting CB1.

If New Orleans were to keep Lattimore, paying Adebo becomes a lot more difficult. Second-year cornerback Alontae Taylor also

had a strong rookie campaign, starting in 2022 as a stand-in for an ailing Lattimore before moving into the starting lineup for 2023.

where he’s had difficulty. Taylor would be able to revert to his outside position by letting go of Lattimore.

A reorganization was required for the team to go under the cap, regardless of the direction that New Orleans chooses to take Lattimore’s future. In the upcoming months, anticipate more actions along these lines.
