Report states that following the Lions-Cowboys issue, Brad Allen’s team was assigned to the Steelers-Ravens game.
Brad Allen isn’t going to disappear from the public eye just yet.
Following a contentious match between the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys, Allen and his officiating team will oversee a second nationally televised game on Saturday between the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to a report on Tuesday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
In the closing seconds, with the Lions trailing 21–20, head coach Dan Campbell sent his team onto the field in hopes of winning the game with a two-point convert. Offense lineman Taylor Decker was the target of a ball from quarterback Jared Goff, but the play was ruled invalid by the referees because Decker had not registered as eligible.
Video showed Decker among three Lions offensive linemen who approached Allen before the play. Decker and Penei Sewell were the first to reach Allen, who turned away before Dan Skipper reached the group. Allen then ruled that it was Skipper, not Decker, who had reported as eligible for the conversion.
The two-point snafu was not the only controversial moment for Allen’s crew in the game, let alone the season. Officials bungled a key tripping flag that was incorrectly called against the Cowboys instead of the Lions. Earlier in the year, Allen and Co. missed a blatant pass interference by the Green Bay Packers in their win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football.
