Wolves plotting move to sign Watford attacker

Giorgi Chakvetadze, an attacker for Watford, is reportedly a target for Premier League team Wolves.

According to Alan Nixon’s Patreon, Watford will ask between £15 million and £20 million for the 25-year-old, who has established himself as a vital member of Vicarage Road since joining last season.

After first joining Watford on loan from Gent of Belgium last summer, the offensive midfielder signed a permanent contract on transfer deadline day in January 2024.

The Hornets could expect a high price if the Georgian leaves in the near future, though, since he has had a great start to the new season for Tom Cleverley’s and was rewarded with a new five-year contract just last month.

Wolves, led by Gary O’Neil, have had a terrible start to the Premier League season and are now in 19th place, in danger of relegation, and have yet to win.

Watford’s Chakvetadze is reportedly a priority target as they look for a player who can assist them get out of their current situation, according to Alan Nixon. Wolves witnessed the Georgian during the Hornets’ Tuesday night away loss to Leeds United.

Watford, however, has safeguarded themselves against being lowballed in January due to the 25-year-old’s contract position at Vicarage Road, and Wolves or any other interested party will need to pay a hefty amount for his new five-year contract.

Since joining Watford last summer, Chakvetadze has emerged as a vital member of the team, and they won’t want to lose him in January. However, it’s difficult to imagine Cleverley’s team turning down a bid from Wolves of between £15 million and £20 million.

Given his start to the 2024–25 season, it is not surprising that the 25-year-old is drawing interest, but there is still a long way to go until January and a lot might change.

Tom Cleverley

Watford has had a respectable start to life under Cleverley, finishing in seventh place, just outside the play-off spots, and the Georgian has started all 12 of the team’s games this season.

In all tournaments, he has recorded one goal and three assists, which may not be very impressive, but his talent has been evident to everybody.

In the Nations League, he scored and assisted in Georgia’s 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic last month. He also started three of Georgia’s four games at Euro 2024, leading his nation to the Round of 16, which would have further elevated him in the public eye.

After his stellar start to the season, Watford wisely gave him a new long-term contract just last month, which guarantees they can demand high compensation should Chakvetadze attract serious interest in January.

For the time being, though, the supporters of Vicarage Road will hope that he keeps up his good work until the transfer window opens, helping the Hornets climb the league standings and boosting his profile so they can demand even more money if they get interest in January.
