McKenna on the fitness concern of some players.

McKenna on the Fitness Concerns of Morsy, Taylor, Hutchinson, and Ogbene

In addition to Omari Hutchinson being sick overnight and Chiedozie Ogbene suffering a probable achilles tear this afternoon that would likely keep the Irish international out for several months, town manager Kieran McKenna has stated that captain Sam Morsy and Jack Taylor missed today’s game due to hamstring problems.

Before those four, the Blues had already lost a number of first-team regulars: Ben Johnson had a thigh ailment, Massimo Luongo had an ankle problem, Jacob Greaves had a hamstring issue, and Axel Tuanzebe had undergone hand surgery.

“In the Everton game, Samy [Morsy] sustained a hamstring injury. He was able to finish the game, but he was unavailable due to a hamstring strain,” McKenna stated.

Due to a hamstring injury, Jack Taylor will not be able to play until after the international break.

Although Samy’s isn’t particularly important, there will be a lot of uncertainty surrounding next week.

Jens [Cajuste] hasn’t trained with the group enough yet, so the plan for the week would have been for Jack to take Samy’s place.

It is really upsetting for both Jack Taylor and us that he sustained an injury towards the end of the training week.

“I must admit that Jens was excellent. He hasn’t trained much since the injury he sustained in Southampton, and he probably shouldn’t have been playing for the squad today or for as long as he did, but he truly persevered and put out an amazing effort.

“I am even more proud of the performance, the way people came in, and the mentality we displayed as a team because there has been a lot of disruption.”

McKenna continued, “It looks serious, unfortunately,” in reference to Ogbene, who had his issue during the build-up to Town’s second goal against his former team. It appears to be an achilles tear, which would be disastrous for both of us.

That’s what I’ve been told thus far. Although we hope it won’t happen, it seems like the most likely scenario.

Does the injury last six to nine months? We hope it won’t be, but I believe the current consensus is that an achilles tear is a serious condition. You’ll need to consult a doctor about that.
