EMOTIONAL AFTERNOON AHEAD

As United gets ready to honour former player George Baldock, manager Chris Wilder anticipates a tearful afternoon.

The first home game since the tragic news of Baldock’s death will be United’s match against Stoke City, and Wilder and all those connected to the team are eager to celebrate the legacy of a highly regarded individual.

“I know there will be that feeling as well from a family point of view,” Wilder said, adding that everyone has been going through a very trying time internally during the last two weeks. It has been challenging.

As we rightfully honour and honour a really dedicated football player to our team—a wonderful personality, character, and human being that we have all tragically lost—it will be an extremely emotional afternoon.

“There has been an overwhelming outpouring of love, warmth, sorrow, and understanding of George’s values. Although he hasn’t won a Premier League or Champions League, his actions along the way have had a profound impact on many fans and everyone he has interacted with.

“When you lose someone as young as George did, this transcends everything, including football. We always feel sad when someone leaves us, but the way things have been for the family and everyone makes it clear what life and football are all about.”

We ask Blades supporters who are coming to pay their respects to be in their seats by 2.45pm, as tributes will be offered to George prior to kickoff for Blades fans attending the match against Stoke.
