Firefighters called to tackle blaze at Gressingham Foods

Overnight, firefighters were dispatched to a sizable fire in a village in Suffolk.

At before 4.30 am on Saturday, crews were summoned to Gressingham Foods, located on Hinderclay Road in Redgrave, close to Diss.

“A security guard on site noticed smoke in a food packaging area of the premises and raised the alarm,” a fire service spokesperson stated.

“It was established that the building was well alight and a total number of six fire engines were required.”

There were crews from Ixworth, Diss, Bury St Edmunds, and an Operational Support Unit from Haverhill, as well as two Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service crews from East Harling and Thetford.

To put out the fire, firefighters employed hose reel jets and breathing apparatus.

The fire only damaged the wall panels and the ceiling space.

The spokesperson affirmed that no injuries had been reported.

Although the fire has been extinguished, residents may notice staff in the vicinity this morning as firemen attempt to cool the area.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known, but a fire investigation is expected to take place later today.
