Ianis Hagi has to leave Rangers on a permanent transfer despite making a return to the first team set up, says Dumitru Dumitriu.

The Gers star needs and deserves to move on after getting lost at Ibrox after suffering a catastrophic injury in

January 2022, the Romanian longtime former boss told Golazo in his own country on October 24.

He was cut from Philippe Clement’s team following a loan at Alaves the previous season.

“I believe he will ultimately receive what he is due,” Dumitriu stated. He doesn’t have to stay in Europe because he is

a talented football player who can play for other teams there. He must go, in my opinion, but not on loan. to be

purchased, used, and to go for good.

“A club’s purchase of you demonstrates their faith in you. Ianis also need that. He is a gifted player who gives his all,

shoots hard, and passes with both feet. He is an excellent football player with many attributes. However, he was

unlucky to sustain the injuries. Let’s not assume that they ought to resign now. Not at all.

Given that Hagi was sent off and suspended in his first game back and hasn’t played since, it is unclear what kind of

standing he will have at Ibrox for the remainder of the season.

Vaclav Cerny’s assist in that match and Clement’s cordial greeting on the touchline indicated the Belgian has no

grudges.

However, the manager’s statements regarding the entire situation have previously contradicted one another, and it

appears like Hagi is not being treated well by the club from the outside.

In the circumstances it is somewhat surprising that the Romania international was so intent on pushing his way back

in, given he was being stonewalled for so long and obliged to turn out for the reserves.

After first stating that the 25-year-old had little chance of returning [Daily Mail, August 31], Clement finally changed

his mind and implied that the choice hadn’t been made solely by him. He then praised the winger’s return to the

team as if he were a new recruit [Sky Sports, 2 October].

Evidently, those claims don’t all add up, but now that the contract dispute seems to have been resolved and Hagi

gave up a wage-increase option [Daily Record, 1 October], a lot will depend on whether the board or the manager

were largely responsible for his exile.

There is no clear reason why the attacker can’t re-establish himself if it was the latter and Clement is willing to

employ him, but if the manager isn’t ultimately a fan, then a departure seems likely in the long run.

The remainder of the season is thought to put him in the store window, and his exit in the summer has already been

predicted as probable [PLZ Soccer, 7 October].

However, so little about Hagi’s previous few months at Rangers has made sense that it is hard to forecast how the

next few will unfold.
