West Brom predicted lineup vs Cardiff as £500k signing tries new role

Carlos Corberan might make two changes to West Bromwich Albion’s starting lineup against Cardiff City at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

West Brom are winless in five Championship games, but they remain in the top four following Wednesday’s 0-0 draw against Blackburn Rovers.

Despite having only two losses this season, Carlos Corberan’s team has a high rate of draws. Goalscoring has also become an issue, with only one goal scored in four games throughout October.

Albion have been rather strong defensively, although Corberan may be tempted to change things up at full-back to create some extra width for assaults.

With Kyle Bartley out due to injury, Torbjorn Heggem might be moved to his preferred center-half position. That may mean a debut for Gianluca Frabotta, a more dynamic left-back who could cause issues on the overlap.

However, tremendous respect must be offered to Cardiff City, who have won their past two games handily, defeating Plymouth Argyle 5-0 and Portsmouth 2-0. Interim manager Omer Riza has done an excellent job of lifting Cardiff out of the relegation zone, and the Welsh side might pose a threat this weekend.

GK: Alex Palmer. The goalie has begun the new season brilliantly, continuing where he left off last season. Palmer has six clean sheets thus far in 2024/25.

Darnell Furlong, a right-back, is a key member of the team. Nobody is currently challenging him for this position.

Semi Ajayi, a Nigerian CB, has started all league games so far. Mason Holgate will knock on the door at some point, but it is Ajayi’s turn to lose.

Torbjorn Heggem, a £500k signing, might go to center defense when Kyle Bartley and Holgate recover from fitness issues.

Gianluca Frabotta, who has yet to start in the Championship, might take over at left-back if Heggem switches roles.

Uros Racic, a loanee from Sassuolo worth roughly £2 million, has shown promise in improving West Brom’s creative production.

CM: Alex Mowatt.Mowatt, one of Corberan’s particular favourites, has long been the chosen pick for the number eight position.

RW – Tom Fellows: Despite not scoring or assisting in four games, the England Under-21 international remains a key player for Albion.

Karlan Grant, a left winger, has made a strong start to the season. He has two goals thus far, but he provides more than just goal-scoring opportunities.

CAM – John Swift: The playmaker has been benched in the previous three encounters, but might return since Grady Diangana has failed to impress.

ST, Josh Maja:Maja had an excellent start, scoring seven goals in his first seven games. He is no longer firing, but he will be more frantic than anybody to put an end to the drought.
