The great Tommy Callaghan passes away

Tommy Callaghan, a former Celtic player, died early this morning (Friday) at the age of 78.

Tommy, born in Cowdenbeath, joined for Celtic from Dunfermline Athletic in November 1968, making history by being signed twice by Jock Stein, who had previously signed Tommy for the Fife team in 1962.

Tommy, a midfielder, made a quick impact on his debut, scoring against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

That was the first of 34 goals he scored for Celtic in 264 games before moving to Clydebank in 1976.

During Tommy’s tenure, Celtic won six titles, five Scottish Cups, and three League Cups.

His heart was always at Celtic Park, and he continued to attend every game as a matchday host for the team.

Everyone at Celtic Football Club is sending their thoughts and prayers to Tommy’s friends and family at this sad time.
