True feelings about Lewis Hamilton signing from Ferrari chiefs laid bare after US GP woe

After Lewis Hamilton endured one of the worst F1 race weekends of his entire career at the United States Grand Prix, Ted Kravitz has shared what Ferrari chiefs might be thinking

Ferrari still “can’t wait to have” Lewis Hamilton next year, despite the seven-time Formula One champion’s disastrous weekend in Texas.

That is the opinion of Sky Sports F1 analyst Ted Kravitz. The seasoned pit lane reporter shared it as he reminisced on Hamilton’s dismal weekend at the US Grand Prix.
The 39-year-old was unable to progress in the Sprint due to a broken bearing that caused a vibration in his car. However, things became much worse as he suffered a Q1 knockout in qualifying for the main race before crashing his Mercedes into the gravel on only the second lap.

In contrast, his future employers Ferrari dominated the Grand Prix, claiming their first one-two on American soil since 2006. Charles Leclerc, Hamilton’s 2025 teammate, took his third win of the year, while Carlos Sainz, who is losing his seat to the Brit, finished second.

Despite this turn of events, Kravitz is positive that the Italians have no buyers’ regret. He stated, “Even if Ferrari did not win races, [Hamilton] would believe it was not the wrong decision to leave Mercedes.” Doesn’t it vary by race?

“You can say that Mercedes had a wonderful Grand Prix while Ferrari did not. You get races where Ferrari isn’t doing well and Mercedes is. You think, ‘Lewis may be wondering what is going on at Ferrari.’

Similarly, if you are Ferrari, you might see at a race where Lewis is having a bad day and wonder, ‘What is going on with Lewis?’ The next race, Lewis will perform admirably, and Ferrari will think, “We have won, we have a winner.”

Hamilton will realize a childhood goal when he first takes the wheel of a Ferrari Formula One car. However, he will have to wait until next year to do so because his Mercedes contract and duties with his current employment prevent him from driving a red vehicle in the post-season Abu Dhabi test.

He will also be missing the first practice session of this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix. To comply with F1 rules, which require teams to field rookies in two FP1 sessions per season, Mercedes will field youngster Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who will replace Hamilton alongside George Russell next season.
