Gers Transfer Targets Compared as 6ft 3inch Home Grown Option Takes on Koppen Protege

Rangers numbers point to even left-back transfer call but eye test proves only one winner.

Rangers are still rumored to be interested in left backs, like Josh Doig and Fredrick Oppegard, despite needing players at other positions.

It seems that Gers manager Philippe Clement is determined to fix the full-back position, as he inherited a side beset with problems.

With Fabio Silva already signed, the Rangers have made a strong start to the transfer window. Nils Koppen is keeping an eye on either Josh Doig or Fredrick Oppegard in his little black book, and there is reason for optimism with both players.

Rangers have even choice with Fredrick Oppegard and Josh Doig

The prior few seasons have seen a scattergun approach to recruiting, but this time, the two young left-backs considered as possible long-term successors to Borna Barisic are more than simply familiar faces.

It is simple to understand why both PSV Eindhoven and Verona’s names have been mentioned while using DataMB’s comparison tool because of their similarities.

Josh Doig and Fredrick Oppegard have nearly identical on paper profiles, therefore it makes likely that players with comparable profiles would be considered as possible Rangers targets in a more data-driven recruitment process.

Koppen will know Oppegard better whilst Doig will already have been scouted and have a profile somewhere in a filing cabinet in Auchenhowie.

The biggest difference between the two players is an obvious one – nearly six inches to be precise – with the former Hibs defender now standing at an impressive 6ft 3inches tall, bizarrely though, Oppegard has a higher aerial percentage win recently.

Philippe Clement does like taller players though and having a full-back with this sort of height can make set-pieces at both ends of the park more effective.

Doig would also be the common sense target given his status as a home grown player, an area where the Rangers squad is particularly short of numbers.
