Live A27 traffic updates after multiple collisions and oil spillage reported
At 8:17 a.m., National Highways reported that one lane was blocked on the A27 near Falmer, heading west between the A277 and B2123, as it approached Brighton.
According to the government agency, this happened “due to a collision and fuel spill.”
“Sussex Roads Police are in attendance,” the social media post stated. The approach was delayed by over 60 minutes due to four miles of traffic.
National Highways announced at 9 a.m. that the A27 near Falmer was now closed as it approached Brighton. The approach was now 70 minutes behind schedule and seven kilometres congested.
“All lanes are NOW OPEN on A27 near Falmer, westbound, A277 + B2123,” a spokesman stated at 9:43 a.m.
“The collision and fuel spill have been resolved.”
“A different crash is occurring on the eastbound A27 at the same spot. Out of two lanes, one is still blocked.
“Delays of 30 minutes on approach, both ways, and four miles of traffic.”
Emergency services reacted to crashes on the A27 between Lewes and Falmer this morning (Tuesday, November 12), according to a Sussex Police spokesperson.
There was a complaint of animals in the westbound carriageway at around 7:30 a.m.
At about the same time, there was a report of a collision involving three vehicles on this carriageway, which led to its closure.
Officers helped Highways staff temporarily close several roads.
Then, about eight in the morning, three more cars collided on the eastbound carriageway.
“The A27 has now reopened in both directions.”
