Does Loanee’s Social Media Account Indicate His Time At Southampton Is Soon To Be up?
After being left out of the Brighton squad, Lesley Ugogochukwu’s loan stint at Southampton from Chelsea has not
gone as planned for the team or the player. It appears that he has deleted any mentions of Saints from his Instagram page.
Even though Lesley Ugochukwu has only started two Premier League games for Southampton—the last of which saw
him substituted out at halftime against Bournemouth back in September—he has made four appearances off the
bench, three of which have been in the last four games, including the 38 minutes he played against Liverpool last
time out. He must have thought he had a good chance of starting at Brighton.
However, Ugochukwu was not even on the bench, and no explanation was provided for his absence, even though
Russell Martin was missing several midfield alternatives for the trip to The Amex.
The 20-year-old midfielder has reportedly removed any reference to Southampton from his Instagram account,
according to The Mail Online.
Chelsea is mentioned in his bio, but there is no mention of Southampton in any of his pictures, which are all of him
playing for the London club or France with a few more personal pics thrown in.
This implies that a disagreement of some kind has occurred, leading to his removal from the 20-man roster for the
match against Brighton.
In his 9 man bench Russell Martin had just 1 midfielder in Joe Aribo to call upon, yet he had 2 central defenders on
hand, plus James Bree who can also play there, 3 wide men in Ryan Fraser, Sam Amo – Ameyaw & Sulemana and an
attacker in Ben Brereton Diaz, in what was a very unbalanced bench in terms of who positional options.
Charlie Taylor was also absent, and if he hadn’t been hurt, his versatility would have been a great way to introduce
some balance.
You would think that Saints would be eager to send Maxwel Cornet to West Ham and Ugochukwu back to Stamford
Bridge, but that may not be as simple as it seems. It depends on the parent clubs taking him back, which they might
not be eager to do unless they have another club that is willing to take them on, which may not be so easy given their
lack of playing time.
