Celtic are in a strong position going into the January transfer window. Compared to last season, when there were chants of’sack the board’ during Celtic’s defeat to Hearts in November, the club enters this window in a far better state.
Brendan Rodgers has declared that Celtic want to do business, and discussions about who could come in have already begun.
A lot of attention has been focused on the midfield positions, with some saying that they are the strongest component of Rodgers’ squad.
Many names have popped up, including Motherwell’s Lennon Miller and Burnley’s soon-to-be out-of-contract striker Josh Brownhill.
However, another name was suggested in the attacking areas, particularly after Rodgers declared in August that he wants three strikers.
As of now, Celtic’s main man is Kyogo Furuhashi, with Adam Idah, who scored in Saturday’s crushing win against Ross County, serving as a backup.
But what about a man who is projected to quit his current club and arrive in the summer of 2025, rather than in the winter?
Andy Halliday says Lawrence Shankland would ‘move to Celtic’
The Scotland international isn’t reaching the high notes of last season, but it hasn’t stopped speculation about his future.
As Si Ferry mentioned on Open Goal, Lawrence Shankland ‘expects to quit Hearts’, with his contract expiring next summer.
Andy Halliday claimed Shankland would ‘move to Celtic’, but former Bhoys youth product Paul Slane shot that down, adding that he simply ‘wouldn’t suit’ Rodgers’ approach.
“In the last few games, where I have watched Shanks, every part of his game, apart from goalscoring, has been great,” Ross McCormack told me.
“Shankland said he expects to leave Hearts and there is ‘no progression made on a new deal, he is free to talk to other clubs in January,” Si Ferry told reporters.
“Would Celtic take him?” Paul Slane said, “No, I don’t think so.” Then McCormack asked, “Do you think he would go to Celtic?” Andy Halliday then said, “I think he would go to Celtic.” Prior to reminding the panel: “He did say he wanted three strikers at the start of the season, didn’t he, Rodgers?!” Slane then stated, “I don’t think he fits Celtic’s style.” “The way we press.”
