3 buildings catch fire near West Peoria firehouse
Firefighters from several communities battled a fire in West Peoria Sunday that started in a garage and spread to a second garage and a vacant home.
West Peoria First Assistant Fire Chief Jim Stecher said an unattached garage was fully engulfed in fire in the 2200 block of West Kellogg Avenue, and wind caused flames spread to another garage and a vacant house in the 500 block of North Waverly Avenue.
Stecher said the fire happened only a block from the fire station. He said his volunteer firefighters had just finished training and were at the station when a passerby reported the fire about 11:20 a.m.
No one was hurt, and Stecher said the fire’s cause has not been determined. He said both garages are destroyed, and the vacant house had about $60,000 damage.
City of Peoria firefighters, the Limestone Township and Logan-Trivoli Fire Protection Districts, the Peoria Heights and Bartonville Fire Departments all provided mutual aid.
