‘Might not get into our team’: Wigan boss makes wild Nathan Cleary claim after second-straight title

It’s good to get to come over here and see her play, even though I’ve read all the rumors. It’s nice to just take a break. I’m not going to be relocating here anytime soon.

After dominating the NRL for the previous five years with Penrith, it is obvious that Cleary would be a class above the majority of Super League players.

However, if the 27-year-old wanted to join the league, Wigan CEO Kris Radlinski said he might not have a spot available at the Warriors.

Radlinski told SEN Radio, “You know what, I might be the only club in the world that says he might not get into our team.”

“I say that with all due respect because I adore him, but right now I have Bevan [French] at number six and Harry Smith at number seven, who had a fantastic grand final. We have him for the long run, and I think he is the future.

“I believe he was at Old Trafford when the game took place, and he would have been very impressed with what he saw.

“I absolutely love him and his relationship with his father and what he’s doing, but I just don’t think he’d get in our team and that’s probably a headline right there.”

With players like French at the forefront, Wigan has established itself as the competition’s standard bearer by winning the last two Super League premierships.

Radlinski’s remarks follow rumors that Penrith would not participate in the 2025 World Club Challenge because of their NRL opening-round match in Las Vegas.
