Exclusive: Leeds deal collapses after failed medical

Leeds United have called off a deal to recruit Cheikhou Kouyate after he failed his physical, according to Football Insider.

The 34-year-old free agent underwent medical tests at United on Tuesday but was not given the all-clear by the club’s staff.

Football Insider reported early on Tuesday (15 October) that Kouyate was traveling to Leeds for a medical after agreeing to sign on a free transfer.

Daniel Farke wants to sign the former Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace defensive midfielder to provide replacements for his team’s injuries.

Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev have knee injuries that are set to keep them out until the new year, leaving Leeds with few options in midfield.

Kouyate is now a free agent after Forest let him leave at the conclusion of his contract last summer to reduce their pay expenditure.

Leeds United must now consider other midfield possibilities.

Now that the prospective opportunity to sign Kouyate has expired, the Yorkshire club will be obliged to return to the free-agent market to investigate any other viable choices.

Farke wants to bolster his squad before the January transfer market begins to keep them competitive in the league until then.

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson has informed Football Insider that the club may recall Dark Gyabi from his loan at Plymouth Argyle to assist ease the injury situation.
