The best Celtic XI of the season to date as tough calls made in key positions

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has benefited from having a quality group to pick from as his team has had a successful start to the season.

With maximum points in the Scottish Premiership and one win from two in the Champions League, the Irishman has had a lot to be happy about so far.

This weekend, Celtic will play Aberdeen in a top-of-the-table league showdown that is sure to pique fans’ interest across the country, with both sides looking to gain an advantage at the top.

Brendan Rodgers’ side has the potential to solidify its positive foundations with a statement victory at home, which would set the stage for an exciting run of Bhoys games.

Having said that, who would you root for the most at Celtic? 67 Take a look at the season’s strongest starting XI so far.

The finest Celtic XI so far this season

Given that Viljami Sinisalo has yet to make a competitive debut for the club, Kasper Schmeichel is the lone option in goal. The veteran Danish international has also performed admirably, keeping six clean sheets since coming in the summer.

Alistair Johnston is expected to start on the right flank, where he has two goals and three assists in ten appearances.

Every successful team need two rock-solid centre-backs, thus Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers make the cut despite the latter’s fitness concerns. Celtic have only conceded one goal in the Scottish Premiership this season, thanks to the pair’s solidity.

Greg Taylor fills in at left-back as he continues to prove his worth on the other side, whether by supporting the wingers or switching to an inverted role in build-up play.

Moving on to midfield is where things get difficult. Callum McGregor takes his normal position as the club captain remains the lynchpin in the engine room. It’s fair to say that scoring four fantastic goals from outside the box has improved his cause.

Arne Engels of Celtic scores his team's opening goal for the penalty spot during the SPL | Premier League match between Celtic FC and Heart of Midl...

Arne Engels, a Belgian international, deserves a mention for his good adaption to life at Celtic Park after moving from Augsburg. With that said, who fills the third space beside them?

Some may find this contentious, but if consistency in performance is the most important factor here, Paulo Bernardo narrowly edges out Reo Hatate. The Portugal Under-21 has shone anytime he has been asked to come in and has been unfortunate not to start more games, so he deserves some appreciation.

Finally, Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda are rather simple options in the broad categories. They have together contributed 21 goals. Under Brendan Rodgers, the two appear to be in top form and have had a significant impact on the Bhoys’ impressive start to the season.

Through the center, Kyogo Furuhashi edges out Adam Idah despite having the identical goal tally across all contests. The Japanese striker remains in front since he has been first-choice, and his overall contribution to the game has demonstrated how to lead the line.

Schmeichel, Johnston, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Taylor, McGregor, Engels, Bernardo, Kuhn, Maeda, and Furuhashi make up your best XI so far this season.
