Alan Shearer shares what he has heard about Eddie Howe as Thomas Tuchel prepares to become England manager

Newcastle United fans can breath a sigh of relief, as Thomas Tuchel is going to be the next England manager rather than Eddie Howe.

The suspense is likely to stop, with Thomas Tuchel being revealed as Gareth Southgate’s replacement.
It comes as a surprise, given that Lee Carsley appeared to have the job wrapped up.

However, the FA said on Tuesday that they were in negotiations with Tuchel, and the matter has since escalated. He is going to be the next England manager, which is fantastic news for Newcastle United fans who were worried about Eddie Howe winning the position.

He’s been connected to the post since it became open, and Gary Neville recently advised Howe to strive for the England job.

What Alan Shearer was told about Eddie Howe and the England job

However, Tuchel will replace Howe, a German manager rather than an English manager.

Although nationality is unimportant, Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer hopes that the FA met with various English coaches during their hunt for Southgate’s successor.

However, Shearer has revealed on The Rest Is Football podcast that Howe was not approached about the England position, which surprised him.

“It’s happened so quickly,” he said.

“We mentioned the other day that there may be a reason why Lee Carsley was ruling himself out. Perhaps you were correct in claiming that he knew something we didn’t know.

“I sincerely hope they’ve spoken with English managers.

“I’m told they didn’t talk with Eddie Howe, or they didn’t hear him at all. I’m reliably informed, which surprises me given that he would be the standout English candidate.”

Eddie Howe happy to remain at Newcastle United

Shearer has been advised that the FA did not approach Howe about being England manager.
However, it was recently claimed that the FA made an informal approach to Howe’s representatives, only to learn that the Newcastle United manager is content at St James’ Park.

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards underlined that message on Tuesday night, writing on X: “As disclosed last week, Howe provided no encouragement to the FA over the England position. Despite the fact that there was debate elsewhere, he believed the matter was closed months ago. The priority has always been to stay in Newcastle. “I’m glad the England talk is over.”
The rumours can now be put to rest, allowing Eddie Howe to focus solely on his role as Newcastle United manager. The England job will not entice him away, despite initial misgivings.

The England rumors came during a period of turbulence at St James’ Park, with Howe and Paul Mitchell at odds.

But Howe and Mitchell’s relationship is now strengthening, and the England job is going to someone else.
