‘Happy to mix it up’ – Doncaster Rovers given inside track on next opponents Swindon Town

Ahead of Doncaster Rovers’ trip to Swindon Town on Saturday we got the opposition lowdown from Joe Acklam of the Swindon Advertiser.

How has Swindon performed so far this season?

JA: “It is fair to say that the start of the season has not been as significant a difference from last year as most would have imagined. In the Premier League, the club’s first 10 matches resulted in fewer points than any other season since the 1960s.There is reason to feel they have been unfortunate, as there were five draws in that span, but statistically they have done well, as manager Mark Kennedy loves to point out. After a difficult campaign last time, they have yet to demonstrate that it was a blip rather than a trend.
How did Mark Kennedy’s first few months on the job go?
JA: “He had a challenging first several months on the job. With a terrible heritage and atmosphere at The Nigel Eady County Ground, fans have not taken to him right away due to poor outcomes.

“It was a big job to take over with all of the turnover from the summer, playing Michael Flynn and Cheltenham Town last time out, the starting line-up had made a grand total of one appearance under him at Swindon, and he only left in January.”The expectation is that two wins in a row, including the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, will herald the beginning of a turnaround. But playing against a strong side like Doncaster will put that to the test.”

What formation and style are Rovers likely to see this Saturday?

JA: Swindon will use a 3-1-4-2 system. Kennedy enjoys his breadth and, as a former winger, prefers to test sides with crosses into the box. Keep an eye out for outside midfielders who are staying extremely wide.

Who is the dangerous man we should keep an eye on?

JA: “It’s a tough one to quantify because only centre-back Will Wright has scored more than once this season.

“In terms of attacking, George Cox has been dangerous with his deliveries since joining from the Eredivisie on deadline day, and the other wing-back, academy product Joel McGregor, has impressed since coming into the team a few games ago. His dynamism and determination have been thrilling to witness on the right.”

Score prediction?

JA responded: “I am going to hope that something of a corner has been turned and Swindon can get a 1-1 draw.”
