Neil Critchley as Hearts manager is not for me and Andrew McKinlay is doing what he always does – Ryan Stevenson

Neil Critchley as Hearts manager is not for me and Andrew McKinlay is doing what he always does – Ryan Stevenson.

Stevo believes the Hearts board is wasting a tremendous opportunity to make a statement, and Rover’s reliance on analytics might be expensive.

The statistics speak for themselves. Neil Critchley was fired from his previous two roles at Queen’s Park Rangers and Blackpool.

I’m not sure what information was entered into the computer, but why is he the greatest choice to be the next Hearts manager? He seldom won a game at QPR! Football is the most simple game in the world, but it has been overcomplicated by fools. Look at his last two jobs.

I’m not suggesting he isn’t a good coach. From what I’ve heard, he’s an excellent coach, but that’s a whole different skill set than being a manager. I honestly don’t know. I’m trying not to be Mr Negative from the beginning. But to be honest, it isn’t for me. I don’t know much about him. As a fan, you can only hope that the individuals making these decisions make the correct ones. Right now, I am not sure I trust this maneuver.

We need Hearts to start winning games immediately. When the Hearts role opened available, the board had the chance to make a statement.

I know they use Tony Bloom’s software and analytical firms, but I wanted the club to hire someone who could unify the supporters and have everyone talking about the Hearts in a positive sense. The majority of the information released on this appointment has been unfavorable.

Many supporters appear to be unhappy. It will be tough for him to step in as a manager. If he doesn’t get started right away, things will be even worse than they were for Steven Naismith in the end.

I’d have loved to see more consideration put into the appointment. I’m not sure how much thinking went into it.

It appears that they have thrown everything over to this analytical business, and whatever the software has picked up, they have chosen. They were unable to reach an agreement with their initial candidate, Per Mathias-Hogmo, thus this is now their second or third option.

I understand that this is how the world is now, and that many decisions are based on statistics. Andrew McKinlay (chief executive) has often shifted the buck, as he did with Naisy and by granting the previous coaching staff new contracts.

I have friends that invest in the club and think Andrew is a great man. As I have previously stated, it is never personal, but people sometimes get carried away by their job position or authority.

We are two points behind the Old Firm, and Andrew mentioned utilizing the analytics company the day before the European game to separate them or at the very least push them all the way.

I mean, we’re seated at the bottom of the table. We need to focus on winning games. This is a huge bet.

I simply felt they might have thought about it more. If that required paying compensation, so be it, but Hearts are a huge club with a lot of clout, and there were many other managers vying for the position.

I would have targeted Derek McInnes from Kilmarnock. He understands the club and Scottish football. It has taken Aberdeen till now to return to the levels he had them at before he departed.

Paulo Sergio had also been on my radar. He is out of work. I know him well. Even bringing Paulo back for a year or two would have rallied the supporters. That’s the type of appointment we need. Someone who might rekindle the excitement at Tynecastle.

I just don’t think this appointment does that! If he loses the first two of games, that will be devastating.

I have seen a few of the social media posts. Some argue that he should be given a chance, but if the results do not improve, they will give it hell for leather.

The new management is on a hiding to nothing. The Hearts fans give a lot and ask for so little in return.

I was there during the season when we were demoted and went into administration. St Mirren beat us and left us hanging.

They continued to sell out Tynecastle each week and gave us standing ovations. Hearts fans demand a manager who will motivate them. I really hope Critchley can achieve it because they haven’t had much to look forward to this season.
