Another ipswich striker will be greatly missed

England’s U-21s will miss Liam Delap’s aggression in their last Euro qualifier against Azerbaijan, interim manager Ben Futcher concedes… with the Ipswich striker sidelined.

England Under-21 interim coach Ben Futcher has heaped praise on Liam Delap as he goes into Tuesday’s game against Azerbaijan in Bristol without the in-form striker.

Delap, England’s striker, will miss the last European Championship qualifier due to a ban after getting booked in their comeback win over Ukraine on Friday.

After spending the weekend with the group, the 21-year-old has returned to Ipswich, where he has four Premier League goals this season.

England has qualified for the Euros next summer, which is unusual given that they are not developing a plethora of talent.

‘If you go and fight him, he will match you,’ Futcher stated. If you race him, he will win. Liam is a top No. 9, and he will continue to develop.

Futcher sees Tottenham’s Dane Scarlett and Birmingham’s £10 million signing Jay Stansfield as viable alternatives, unless he plays a false nine, where Morgan Rogers may thrive.
