Leeds United return to action on Tuesday evening, hosting Watford at Elland Road for the latest Sky Bet Championship fixture.
Prior to the game, we reviewed our history and selected a Starting XI of players who have appeared for both teams.
GOALKEEPER:
David Russell
The 1920s goalkeeper had limited first-team experience when he joined the club and competed with Billy Down for the starting spot in 1925/26. Russell made nine games for the club, but after failing to establish himself in the first team, he left and joined Watford in the summer of 1926. He similarly struggled to establish himself as a regular first-team player for the Hornets, appearing only seven times before being dismissed in 1927.
DEFENDER:
Clarke Carlisle
Carlisle joined Leeds before of the 2004/05 season and made numerous appearances for the main team. He only played for the club for one season, although he scored four goals in 38 games. Watford came calling in the summer of 2005, and he earned promotion to the Premier League in his debut season with the Hornets. Due to injuries, he missed the first eight months of the 2006/07 season and left the club at the end of the season. He left after making 40 appearances and scoring five goals for the Hornets.
DEFENDER:
Richard Jobson
Jobson played in the heart of defence for Graham Taylor’s Watford side in the 1980s, when the Hornets made their debut in the top level. He spent three seasons in Hertfordshire before signing with Leeds United a decade later in 1995. However, his time at Leeds was cut short by injury, and he only appeared in 26 games for the Whites, scoring one goal.
DEFENDER:
Paul Robinson
The Watford-born defender began his career with the Hornets, making his professional debut at the age of 17 in 1996. He went on to make 252 appearances for his hometown club, progressing from the third tier of English football to the Premier League. Robinson, who had previously played for West Bromwich Albion and Bolton Wanderers, was loaned to Leeds in March 2012. He made 10 appearances for the Whites before returning to Bolton at the end of the season.
DEFENDER:
Leigh Bromby
After spending the majority of his career at Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, Bromby moved south to join Watford in 2008. He played 44 games for the club before returning to the north to join Leeds United. The defender was a member of the 2009/10 team that won promotion to the Championship. He stayed with the club for two more seasons after their promotion and declared his retirement after 66 games and one goal for the Whites.
MIDFIELDER:
Tony Currie
Currie made his professional football debut for Watford in 1967 and appeared 18 times for the Hertfordshire club, scoring nine goals in the process. He left Sheffield United after one season in the first team, and after more than 300 appearances for the Blades, Leeds United signed him in 1976. Currie spent three seasons heavily involved with his third Yorkshire-based club, scoring 16 goals in 124 games before moving for QPR in 1979.
MIDFIELDER:

During his time at Tottenham Hotspur, the former Watford midfielder was loaned out to seven different clubs, one of which was Leeds United in 2011. He appeared in five Championship games for the Whites in the 2010/11 season. The midfielder joined the Hornets in the summer of 2023, played one season for the club, and left at the end of the 2023-24 season. Livermore appeared 32 times and netted three goals.
