Liam Farrell, the captain of the Wigan Warriors, has challenged the NRL champion Penrith Panthers about the prospect of a 2025 World Club Challenge, stating that the Super League winners “100%” want to participate.

With the Panthers winning an incredible fourth consecutive NRL title and the Warriors completing an unparalleled quadruple in Saturday night’s Super League Grand Final, Wigan and Penrith maintained their positions as the two most dominant and exceptional teams in the club game over the past ten days.

This year’s World Club Challenge was an exciting match between the two teams, with Wigan winning to give Ivan Cleary’s team their second consecutive loss in the competition after they were defeated by St Helens in Australia in 2023.

But next year’s game appears to be seriously in danger. Due to their obligations in Las Vegas, Penrith has stated that they would not be interested in participating in a World Club Challenge on either side of the globe.

Although Wigan is also going to Vegas, they are reportedly amenable to staging the game, even if it means doing it in the US.

Following Saturday night’s triumph, Farrell sent a strong message to the Panthers, stating that Wigan is eager to participate in the match and maybe defend the title they took home at the beginning of the season.

“We would definitely be up for it if there was a way to do it,” he stated. The club is fully committed to participating in the World Club Challenge.

Since our last game against them was so memorable, it would be wonderful to play them again if both sides can perform well. We have a very deep history together.

“I think they’re (Penrith) just looking at their calendar year and how many games they have to play and taking care of player welfare, which is, in my opinion, the most important thing. They have players playing internationals at the end of the year, and I think it will be a bit too much for them to try to play in a World Club Challenge and a game in Las Vegas.”
