BYE BYE BERNABEI

The champions are prepared to finalise a contract with the Brazilian club SC Internacional, marking the end of Alexandro Benrabei’s Celtic career.

The Argentinean left-back’s season-long loan with the South American team began in March and is set to end in December.

However, as CQN stated FOUR months ago, Brendan Rodgers is eager to have the 24-year-old defender removed from the team, and the clubs are getting close to an agreement for a permanent transfer.

The Parkhead management is willing to pay about half of the £3.75 million Bernabei paid to join from his native team Lanus in July of two years ago. The back-four player’s contract is set to expire in 2027.

YOU CAN SEE ME NOW.Last season, Alexandro Bernabei made a rare appearance in the first team during the February 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

With two goals in 14 appearances, including last week’s 2-2 tie with Corinthians, the Hoops exile has made a name for himself as a first-team regular with the Brazilian squad.

Alessandro Barcellos, the president of Internacional, has acknowledged that he hopes the full-back would stay with the team past the short-term agreements.

In June, CQN predicted that twelve players, including Bernabei, would depart in a Celtic clear-out.

Only Johnny Kenny, who is on loan to Shamrock Rovers until the end of the season, remains after nine players have left.

Mikey Johnston was at the top of our list of players leaving, and it goes without saying that the 25-year-old winger for the Republic of Ireland cost £3 million to join West Brom after making an impression during his brief loan stint at the Championship team the previous season, scoring seven goals in 20 games.

HEADING FOR THE EXIT…Mikey Johnston in the 2-0 win over Hibs in August.

Oh Hyeon-gyu, a South Korean international striker, left the champions after a one-and-a-half-year stint. He transferred to Genk of Belgium for £2 million, the same amount that K-League team Suwon Bluewings paid for the 23-year-old forward.

Despite signing a five-year contract in January 2022, he only made three league starts in his 20 games the previous season.
Oh added a pitiful five goals to his six goals in his first campaign. He would eventually move on, and Genk was thrilled to get the formidable attack leader.

Kwon Hyeok-kyu, a fellow countryman, joined Hibs for the season, following in the footsteps of Swedish defender Gustaf Lagerbielke, who joined FC Twente of the Netherlands.

It was not surprising when Yuki Kobayashi, a 23-year-old former Vissel Kobe star, signed a long-term contract with Portuguese team Portimonense in the summer after the Japanese centre-back failed to make a single appearance under Rodgers the previous season.

FORGOTTEN MAN…James McCarthy faded from the Celtic first-team picture.

During Neil Lennon’s brief visit to Romania, Swiss custodian Benji Siegrist, who was also frozen out last season, joined him at Rapid Bucharest.

With one year remaining, the contracts of midfielders James McCarthy and Liam Shaw were terminated.

The former Sheffield Wednesday prospect has joined English fourth-tier team Fleetwood Town following loan stints at Morecambe, Motherwell, and Wigan, while the 33-year-old Glasgow-born Republic of Ireland player has yet to find a new club.

In the January transfer window, who will be leaving Parkhead?

Keep an eye out!
