Parsons has already recorded 30 quarterback hits, 15 tackles for loss

Parsons is a dangerous player, according to Goff. They can shift him around, which is an advantage they have with him. They engage in numerous activities with him. We need to be informed of his current status because he is incredibly capable. If Parsons dominates a game against the Lions, who are headed to the playoffs, “Big Mike” may need to expand his language when characterizing Micah.

Johnson and Jones are stalwarts of the sport, a pair of silver-haired, slick-talking chaps whose names ring across the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They reached the pinnacle of the sport together, doing so for one of the most iconic organizations in professional sport.

In an instant, it was done. Now some 30 years after, the two are reuniting in front of a raucous Dallas fanbase, one certain to parade its former general in a tempest of applause when.

Here’s what you need to know about the feud that broke up one of the most successful coach/ownership duos in modern NFL history.

Jimmy Johnson vs. Jerry Jones feud, explained

Johnson and Jones were at the absolute peak of their powers in the early 1990s. Johnson, a tactical savant, guided America’s Team to two Lombardi Trophies, becoming one of just three head coaches to ever capture college football and professional football’s highest honor.

At just 50 years old, Johnson had plenty left in the tank. Heading into his fifth season, however, Jones attempted to funnel decision-making power into the ownership box. The Cowboys’ benefactor yearned to be something of a hybrid between owner, general manager and coach.

Johnson, a football man through and through, wasn’t willing to cede control. A Cold War of sorts ensued, one that eventually cost Johnson his job.

Jones hired former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer following Johnson’s dismissal. Dallas maintained its standing as one of the league’s top sides, capturing another Super Bowl in 1994 while making the postseason in three of Switzer’s four years.

Still, things weren’t quite the same. Switzer’s departure after the 1997 season sparked a generation of failings from Jones and Co. To date, the Cowboys have won just four playoff games since Switzer left town. There’s a feeling among fans and experts alike that it could have been a lot more had Johnson been allowed to do his job properly.

To his credit, Jones has admitted that he shares a large portion of the blame for the way Johnson’s Cowboys career ended. In a 2016 interview with Texas A&M radio station KTCK, Jones said the following:

“I lost my tolerance for a lot of things. I probably should have had a little more tolerance with Jimmy Johnson. Seriously.”

Still, he hadn’t yet welcomed Johnson into Dallas’ ring of honor — a Parthenon of footballing excellence speckled with some of the franchise’s greatest-ever talents.

Jones declared earlier in the season that Dallas would be putting DeMarcus Ware’s name in the ring. A lot of people watching wondered when Johnson would get to see Jerry World, a stadium largely founded on the accomplishments he, Jones, and the others made during their four years together.

In the end, all it took was a few additional meetings — and some clever PR — to get Johnson in. Everything was meticulously planned; Johnson’s former QB, Troy Aikman, will be on sight to call the game for ESPN, further adding to the historical significance.

In the end, Johnson and Jones were two of a kind. Their highly-competitive natures were always destined to clash, especially as Jones attempted to wean control away from one of the franchise’s most popular figures.

Or, as Jones told ESPN:

“I never had a time when I didn’t have an appreciation for his confidence and skill level. Ever. I’ve always had that appreciation when we parted. I did that at that particular time. So that has never been an issue. But, frankly, we were so tight and so strong, and when you use the word, saying ‘competitive,’ we didn’t have a lot of time to talk about the old times when we first got involved. In our first four years, this thing, every day was Pearl Harbor on and off the field. But it was a great atmosphere. Great. Again, his being in our ring of honor does, in my mind, say that.”

But all wounds heal with time. Johnson has his day in the spotlight on Saturday. Jones is likely to be nearby, urging the concourses to erupt in cheers as their former leader is surrounded by them.
